I’m starting to work on #9505 which allows a user to view the guide in a different language. This probably involves a couple things:
- translating the Guide
- only showing channels in the specified language
- choosing the default language based on what language Miro is in
But I don’t really know what people want from this feature. So I’m opening the floor up to you. What would you like a language switcher to do? How would you like to interact with it? Either add a comment to the bug or to this post, and you can help direct this feature!
I’d like the guide to be translated entirely including description of feeds as well navigation elements. Miro should use the system locale for setting the value, just like the interface does. (If people complain, have a setting to revert back to English.)
If a channel is not English it should additionally be grouped (tagged if you will) in the category “International” and then in the specific language’s subcategory. One could then, in the listing of general categories, group the non-English feeds together.
I’d encourage you not to “hide” any channels from users but clearly mark them as international, since diversity is a main reason in advocating Miro, imo. Many people speak (even if it is only a little bit) a second language and exposure to other languages by sometimes featuring said “International” category on the front page would be a good thing.
Since it’s a lot of work to translate all descriptions of a show into all languages: get users to do it and have a moderator or two proofread them.
interesting site man
