Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF) is seeking part-time Marketing Interns to join the virtual offices at PCF and Amara, an award-winning cloud-based platform for subtitling and translation. Ideal candidates have a strong work ethic and desire to build communities that contribute to a global mission.
PCF is a nonprofit working to build a more open, collaborative, and inclusive world. Amara enables tens of millions of viewers to fully engage with videos that would otherwise be inaccessible, and is used by organizations like TED, California Academy of Sciences, and Scientific American to engage viewers in hundreds of different languages. Amara is also a revenue-producing sustainability program for PCF.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Marketing Interns will assist the Marketing and Outreach Team in promoting the work of Amara and PCF to increase awareness and engage communities that use Amara to make video universally accessible. This role will be instrumental in gaining visibility for our mission and brand message. Interns will help build impact while gaining practical experience and professional skills in a unique nonprofit/startup environment.
We offer internships during the fall and spring semester (Sept-Dec and Jan-April) as well as summer internships (May/June-Aug/Sept). Interns have the option to select an area of focus or any other area of marketing you are interested in exploring. If you are interested in any of the specializations below, please indicate in your cover letter which area of focus you are interested in, and why you would be a good fit. You may select more than one.
Social Media. Learn to coordinate and execute a social media strategy across key social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Communications. Learn to create and execute a unified communications strategy utilizing campaigns, grassroots outreach and community building.
Digital Video and Graphics. Learn how to conceptualize and produce short-form videos for educational outreach, brand marketing and social media.

- Course credit available (dependent on your specific education program)
Candidates must be an enrolled student. Although this is a volunteer (unpaid) internship, we are committed to giving our interns a fulfilling experience and opportunity to create lasting impact in an increasingly connected world while gaining new skills and experience to carry into your career.
- Strong writing skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team
- Working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Google
- Proficiency with photography, digital videos, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design
While internet video has exploded, language is still a significant barrier to education, economic opportunity, political participation, and other areas of cultural life. Amara connects millions of people to help break down these barriers and allows hundreds of organizations to make their content more accessible through innovative technology.
Amara is a project of the Participatory Culture Foundation (PCF), a nonprofit 501c3. Content that can enrich lives, but is not currently available to those who cannot hear or understand the language of the video. Amara and PCF are based out of Massachusetts, but the team is global and works virtually. You’ll be collaborating with a talented and passionate team striving to make positive social impact. The team uses chat and video apps (Skype, Slack, Google Hangouts) as well as email for internal communication.
